Preventive and General Dentistry

The foundation of the Aglow Dental Group practice includes a focus on protecting and repairing natural teeth whenever possible and addressing dental emergencies when they arise.

Our Active Maintenance Programme

The best way to avoid dental emergencies is to maintain your regular dental check-up and clean appointments. It is also crucial to address any oral conditions that arise through digital dental x-rays or diagnosis during your exam with Dr Angela Zhang.

Routine oral evaluations identify dental conditions early when no symptoms exist. When left untreated, problems such as dental decay may quickly progress into more complex issues requiring root canal treatment or tooth extraction.

Preventive treatments include:

  • Dental exams
  • Professional teeth cleaning
  • Diagnostic radiographs (x-rays)
  • Fluoride application
  • Sealants
  • Nightguards
  • Athletic mouthguards

Treatments cost less and require less time in the chair when we can catch issues early.

Gentle Children’s Dentistry

We welcome kids and provide a family-friendly atmosphere for your little one. Regular children’s check-ups, cleans and cavity prevention help children develop good oral health that can last a lifetime.

When the need for a filling arises, you can count on Dr Zhang for gentle fillings to repair teeth.

Periodontal Disease Prevention and Treatment

Many people do not realise the connection between oral and overall health. Periodontal disease is an active infection causing inflammation in the gums and can lead to complications with many systemic diseases, including:

  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Low birthweight babies
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Certain types of cancer

Hormonal fluctuations such as pregnancy and menopause also have a negative impact on gum health. We customise treatment for women to keep them healthy when they need us most.

Early gum disease is often reversible with improved home care and professional dental cleans. As it progresses, we may increase your hygiene schedule to allow our oral therapists to complete deep cleanings and maintenance designed to keep gums healthy.

Restorations and Tooth Replacement

Broken, decayed and chipped teeth are usually treatable with modern tooth-coloured restorations including composite fillings, dental crowns and bonding.

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, Dr Zhang will go over the best options for you along with their cost and benefits to help you choose between dental implants, bridges, dentures or partial dentures.

Dental Emergencies

Most healthy patients can avoid dental emergencies with routine care. If you develop a painful toothache or broken tooth, we do our best to treat you quickly – usually with same- or next-day appointments.

Is it Time for Your Next Dental Appointment?

We welcome you to get in touch to book your next active maintenance appointment in our Sydney dental surgery. Our clinic is conveniently located just downhill from Sydney’s CBD in Chinatown. We welcome our diverse patient community by speaking both Chinese and English. Many international students enjoy the modern, comfortable dentistry our team provides.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Aglow Dental Group, Dr Angela Zhang has a particular interest in helping patients avoid pain and tooth extractions. The best way to stay out of trouble when it comes to your smile is with twice-yearly dental visits designed to identify dental conditions in the early stages before they cause permanent damage to bone health or the nerve of the tooth.

Our active maintenance programme includes twice-yearly dental check-ups and cleans along with diagnostic x-rays to keep a close eye on your oral health and the changes that occur over time.

Skipping just a few dental appointments can lead to trouble. An undetected tiny cavity can turn into deep decay that requires root canal therapy and a dental crown faster than you might first imagine.

Periodontal disease can move into the bone supporting the tooth and permanently destroy the foundation that supports the tooth. At this point, dental extraction is the only option to stop the bone resorption.

Preventive dentistry is a small investment in time and money that can pay off dramatically over time. Dr Zhang designs each dental treatment plan based on the needs of each patient. Your oral health routine may require some adjustment over time – during pregnancy or during senior years.

We look forward to partnering with you in oral health.

Dr Angela Zhang may recommend a nightguard if patients clench and grind their teeth or when they have jaw pain in their TMJs, called TMD – temporomandibular joint dysfunction.

Teeth Grinding, Called Bruxism

Most patients will have intermittent instances of teeth grinding due to stress or illness. For some patients, however, teeth grinding is a nightly occurrence. This habit often occurs unconsciously during sleep and can have a negative impact on oral health and well-being.

Bruxism leads to:

  • Worn and broken teeth
  • Painful face and jaw muscles
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Teeth sensitivity

Teeth grinding occurs for a number of reasons, including having a misaligned bite, some prescription medications and jaw joint disorders. Clicking, popping and locking jaw joints are common among people who grind their teeth.

A nightguard will protect the teeth by putting a barrier between the upper and lower jaw. This reduces the force caused by enamel-to-enamel contact and can reduce fractures and cracked teeth.

TMJ Splints

For patients with painful jaw joints, occlusal (bite) splints can help the jaw relax into its proper position. When the jaw is seated correctly in its joint, muscle inflammation and discomfort often subside.

Give our Sydney dental office a call if you think you grind your teeth.

Dr Angela Zhang and our entire team here at Aglow Dental Group are extremely proud of the modern technology we feature. From digital x-rays and impressions to televisions in our treatment rooms, we love the investment we have made in our ability to care for patients.

We also feature Morita massage chairs that help patients relax during their visits. Few dental practices have this luxurious option.

Having the latest technology in our Chinatown neighbourhood practice gives our patients the very best of both worlds. We offer world-class dentistry with personalised care that keeps our patients coming back year after year for their necessary dental treatment.

Many of our patients travel across town, coming from Sydney’s CBD and the international university because they realise that Aglow Dental Group offers a unique blend of high-tech care with a gentle touch.

If you are searching for a family dentist in Sydney, we invite you to get in touch. We welcome patients of all ages and help many people have a smile they feel proud of. We welcome children, teens, adults and seniors to become part of our dental family.

If it is time for your next dental clean and check-up, we have appointments available to help you get started.

Anytime you experience toothache, a broken tooth or a sudden change in your oral health, it is a good idea to give your Sydney emergency dentist a call to have your condition looked at.

Dental emergencies generally only cause pain once they are advanced and involve the nerve. It this point, it becomes a matter of trying to save, rather than extract, the tooth. A broken or avulsed (knocked out) tooth can sometimes be saved, but acting fast is essential.

A broken tooth is more likely to continue to break down until it is no longer restorable with a dental crown.

An avulsed tooth is not necessarily a lost cause. Often, Dr Zhang can put it back in place and secure it until it restabilises in the bone.

If you break or lose a dental restoration, we may be able to postpone replacement treatment for a couple of days, but we still encourage patients to seek prompt treatment to avoid developing an infection or secondary decay.

If you are a Sydney resident, professional or an international student, we are here when you need us most. Dr Zhang is gentle and will provide solutions to help you feel like yourself again fast. We strive to treat dental emergencies on the same day.
