Occlusal Sleep Medicine
Dental sleep medicine focuses on the management of sleep-related breathing disorders, including obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and chronic snoring, using customised dental appliances designed to keep the airway open during sleep.
Obstructive sleep apnoea occurs when the airway collapses or becomes blocked during sleep, leading to repeated breathing interruptions. This can result in poor sleep quality, loud snoring, daytime fatigue, reduced concentration, and increased long-term health risks such as cardiovascular disease.
For suitable patients, dental sleep medicine offers a non-invasive, clinically proven alternative to CPAP therapy. Custom-made mandibular advancement appliances gently reposition the lower jaw forward during sleep, helping maintain an open airway and improve airflow. These appliances are discreet, portable, and designed for comfort and long-term compliance.
Dental sleep medicine may be suitable for patients who:
• Have mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnoea
• Snore loudly or experience disrupted sleep
• Are unable to tolerate CPAP therapy
• Prefer a comfortable, travel-friendly treatment option
At Aglow, treatment is provided using an evidence-based and collaborative approach, working closely with sleep physicians where appropriate to ensure accurate diagnosis and ongoing care. Our goal is to improve not only sleep quality, but also overall health, energy, and wellbeing through better breathing during sleep.
